Occasionally the right answer is not a bigger balloon. It is two smaller ones, and it usually costs less.
Two entrances, two balloons
A site with approaches from two directions has a problem one balloon cannot solve: it sits at one end and the other approach never sees it clearly.
Two 10-foot blimps at $684 blank each is $1,368, against $1,813 for a single 18-footer. Two balloons, two approaches, less money, and less helium in total (210 cubic feet against 329).
That arithmetic surprises people, and it comes up more often than you would think.
A cluster reads as an event
Three spheres at different heights over one site look like something is happening. One sphere looks like a business that owns a balloon.
For a sale weekend or a grand opening that difference matters. Three 5.5-foot spheres at $351 each is $1,053 and 339 cubic feet of gas: less than a single 14-foot sphere on both counts, and considerably more noticeable.
The practical limits
Keep the tethers well separated and think about what happens in a wind shift. Lines that can reach each other eventually will.
Each balloon needs its own anchor and its own top-off, so two balloons is two jobs, not one. If nobody has time for one, do not buy three.
When a single larger one is right
When you need to be read from a long way off. Reading distance depends on print size, and print size depends on the balloon, so two small blimps do not equal one large one for legibility.
Multiple balloons win on presence and coverage. A single large one wins on how far away your name can be read.
